Overview

The NSComm MPO 12F to 2xMPO 4F APC low loss breakout cable is a high-density OM4 multimode fanout solution engineered for 400G/800G data center architectures. With one 12-fiber MPO-12 APC (Female) trunk splitting into two 4-fiber MPO-4 APC (Female) legs, this assembly provides a 4-channel-to-two 2-channel splitter design that uses 8 active fibers for transmission and 4 inactive fibers as additional strength members. The APC endfaces feature an 8-degree angled polish to deflect internal back reflections away from sensitive transceivers, helping maintain signal integrity at high data rates.

Built with bend-insensitive OM4 50/125 μm multimode fiber and a riser-rated OFNR jacket, this Type B breakout cable is ideal for short-reach parallel optics deployments in high-density racks. When used in pairs, two MPO-12 to 2×MPO-4 APC cables can link an 800G NVIDIA InfiniBand twin-port OSFP transceiver to four 400G NVIDIA InfiniBand OSFP/QSFP112 transceivers, enabling efficient 1×800G-to-4×400G fanout in high-speed multimode links. When 400G transceivers are used with the 1:2 breakout, only two channels are activated per leg, effectively creating 200G links. Compared with separate breakout cassettes, MPO breakout cables reduce interconnect points, lower insertion loss, and provide a more cost-effective solution.

Frequently Questions and Answers

Q1. What is an MPO/MTP fiber patch cable?

A: An MPO/MTP fiber patch cable is a high-density fiber optic cable terminated with MPO or MTP connectors, designed to support multi-fiber connections in high-speed data center networks.

Q2. What is the difference between MPO and MTP connectors?

A: MPO is a standard multi-fiber connector, while MTP is a high-performance MPO connector with improved mechanical design, higher precision alignment, and better optical performance.

Q3. What fiber counts are available for MPO/MTP cables?

A: Our MPO/MTP cables are available in 8-fiber, 12-fiber, and 16-fiber configurations to support different network architectures.

Q4. What is an MPO jumper cable?

A: An MPO jumper cable is a trunk-style cable with MPO/MTP connectors on both ends, commonly used for direct connections between switches, patch panels, or distribution frames.

Q5. What is an MPO breakout cable?

A: An MPO breakout cable splits a multi-fiber MPO connector into multiple individual connectors, allowing a high-speed port to connect to several lower-speed ports.

Q6. What is an MPO to LC harness cable?

A: An MPO to LC harness cable breaks out one MPO/MTP connector into multiple LC connectors, typically used to connect QSFP or QSFP-DD ports to SFP-based equipment.
