Huawei networking engineers monitor microwave backhaul, 5G RAN, next-generation Wi-Fi and FTTR connectivity across distributed enterprise infrastructure.

Quick Summary

Huawei's September 20-28 networking activity shifted away from the previous week's HUAWEI CONNECT switch launches and toward wireless backhaul, 5G RAN, next-generation Wi-Fi and real-world transport deployment. Huawei launched the RTN 5100 unlicensed 5 GHz PtMP microwave solution, announced a top position in GlobalData's 2026 5G RAN assessment, participated in an IEEE next-generation Wi-Fi event with millimeter-wave Wi-Fi for FTTR, and supplied the microwave platform behind Jazz's new 15.1 Gbps single-antenna backhaul link in Pakistan. Huawei also announced new Gartner recognition for its full-stack infrastructure platform services. No separate new enterprise switch, router, AP or firewall hardware family was identified in this exact window.

Huawei Launches RTN 5100 for Unlicensed 5 GHz PtMP Backhaul

Huawei launched the RTN 5100 on September 21 as a new point-to-multipoint microwave solution operating in unlicensed 5 GHz spectrum. The product is aimed at distributed field sites and enterprise private-line scenarios in sectors such as electric power, oil and gas and government.

Huawei says a single central-site RTN 5100 can support up to two 1 Gbps channels and connect as many as 128 remote sites. It supports PtMP, PtP and multi-hop relay topologies, while TDMA is used to coordinate multi-site access. Huawei also highlights AES-256 air-interface encryption, redundant link backup and lower-power deployment.

IT Home independently reported the launch on September 22, repeating Huawei's capacity and security specifications. These performance figures remain vendor-supplied rather than independent benchmark measurements.

Network-Switch.com observation: Unlicensed microwave can be useful where fiber construction is slow or economically difficult, but 5 GHz backhaul should still be engineered around interference, line-of-sight, fade margin, link availability and local spectrum rules. Peak capacity alone is not enough to determine whether it can replace fiber or licensed microwave for a critical site.

Huawei Announces Sole-Leader Position in GlobalData's 2026 5G RAN Assessment

On September 23, Huawei announced that GlobalData had named it the sole Leader in its 2026 5G RAN: Competitive Landscape Assessment. Huawei says the report evaluated vendors across AAU, RRU, mmWave, BBU and advanced software capabilities and placed Huawei in the Leader category across all five areas.

Huawei linked the assessment to its 5G-Advanced portfolio, including enhanced uplink, FDD/TDD carrier aggregation, RedCap, low-latency capabilities and its evolving 0 Bit 0 Watt 0 Loss energy-efficiency approach.

The underlying paid GlobalData assessment was not independently reproduced in the public sources reviewed for this article, so the ranking and category-level conclusions are attributed to Huawei's announcement rather than presented as an independently verified Network-Switch.com evaluation.

Network-Switch.com observation: Analyst positioning can help identify broad vendor momentum, but RAN procurement still depends on spectrum bands, radio configuration, site footprint, power, transport capacity, software roadmap and local operator requirements. A market ranking cannot substitute for a project-level radio and transport design.

Huawei Announces Gartner Recognition for Full-Stack Infrastructure Platform Services

Huawei announced on September 24 that it had been positioned in the Leaders Quadrant of Gartner's 2026 Magic Quadrant for Infrastructure Platform Consumption Services. Huawei describes its DCS offering as a full-stack platform combining compute, storage, networking, virtualization, AI and unified infrastructure management.

Gartner's public market information describes infrastructure platform consumption services as multidomain, consumption-based offerings that can include network-as-a-service, compute, storage, data protection and API-centric lifecycle management. Huawei says its DCS architecture uses eSphere virtualization and iMaster DME to pool, schedule and operate infrastructure resources.

This recognition is broader than enterprise switching or routing and should be treated as a data-center infrastructure and service-delivery development rather than a new network hardware launch.

Network-Switch.com observation: Consumption-based infrastructure changes the buying model as much as the technology. Network teams evaluating such platforms should separate the commercial service layer from the underlying physical architecture and confirm switching, routing, segmentation, HA, interoperability and lifecycle support requirements independently.

Huawei Presents Millimeter-Wave Wi-Fi for FTTR at IEEE Next Generation Wi-Fi

Huawei participated in the IEEE San Diego Next Generation Wi-Fi event on September 25. Dong Wei of Huawei presented a session titled "Integrated Millimeter Wave Wi-Fi for Fiber-to-the-Room."

The program placed Huawei's FTTR-related wireless research alongside presentations on IEEE 802.11bn ultra-high-reliability Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi sensing and future WLAN evolution. The agenda confirms the Huawei technical session but does not itself constitute a commercial product launch or publish performance benchmarks.

Network-Switch.com observation: Millimeter-wave Wi-Fi integrated with FTTR is technically interesting because fiber can bring high-capacity backhaul very close to the room while short-range mmWave adds another wireless capacity layer. The tradeoff is coverage: very high-frequency wireless requires careful room-level placement, obstruction analysis and fallback to conventional Wi-Fi bands.

Jazz announced on September 25 that it had deployed what it described as Pakistan's first and highest-capacity 15.1 Gbps microwave link over a single antenna. The deployment uses a Super Dual Band configuration based on Huawei Technologies' microwave platform.

According to Jazz, multiple carrier outdoor units are consolidated onto one high-efficiency antenna instead of requiring separate dishes. The approach increases transport capacity while reducing tower hardware and footprint, which can be useful at dense or space-constrained sites.

Business Recorder and The News subsequently reported the deployment on September 26, providing local external confirmation of the announcement.

Network-Switch.com observation: The case illustrates why microwave remains relevant even as fiber footprints expand. Where tower loading, right-of-way, construction time or terrain limits fiber, modern multi-band microwave can provide multi-gigabit transport. Engineers still need to validate path availability, rain fade, spectrum, redundancy and latency against the required SLA.

Network-Switch.com View

This was not another enterprise-switch launch week. The stronger signal was diversity across the transport stack: unlicensed PtMP microwave for distributed enterprise sites, high-capacity microwave for operator backhaul, next-generation Wi-Fi research at the room edge, and continued evolution in 5G RAN and full-stack infrastructure services.

For enterprise buyers, RTN 5100 is the most directly new networking product in this period. The Jazz deployment is the strongest real-world transport case, while the IEEE presentation is better viewed as a forward-looking technical direction. The GlobalData and Gartner items provide market context but should not replace model-level engineering validation.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Research note

Searches covered Huawei corporate and enterprise sources, IEEE, Gartner public market information, regional telecom and technology media, Reuters, Associated Press, CNN and BBC. Reuters published Huawei-related AI commentary during this window, but it concerned Huawei's broader AI chip and computing strategy rather than new enterprise networking products. No directly relevant CNN or BBC report on a new Huawei switch, router, wireless AP or firewall launch was identified for September 20-28, 2026. HUAWEI CONNECT 2026 announcements dated September 17-19 were excluded even when third-party outlets republished them during this window, because those underlying events were already covered in the previous Network-Switch.com Huawei update.
