In the fast-paced telecommunications industry, where optimizing network infrastructures for better data transmission and cost-effective scalability is essential, a leading telecom company based in Switzerland has been partnering with Network-switch.com for several years. This company offers a range of services, including broadband access, data services, voice communication, and more, with a strong focus on driving digital transformation and enhancing IT accessibility.
The telecom company expressed a clear need to improve their data transmission capabilities, particularly for long-distance solutions, while keeping costs within budget and ensuring scalability to meet future bandwidth demands. Network-switch.com responded by offering a customized 100G DWDM solution, addressing the client's requirements through a collaborative effort.
Challenge Faced by the Client
A company encountered challenges in expanding its network, particularly in terms of long-distance and underwater communication. The company needed a solution that could meet its long-range transmission requirements while ensuring cost-effectiveness and avoiding the use of expensive underwater amplifiers. To address these needs, we proposed two tailored solutions, one from Huawei and the other from Cisco, based on the client's existing equipment and technical requirements.
Solutions
1. Huawei Solution
We recommended the Huawei OptiX OSN 1800 Series solution for the client, offering a high cost-performance ratio. This solution leverages the Huawei OTN platform, integrating key components such as EDFA, VOA, DWDM Mux Demux, and 100G/200G coherent optical modules to optimize fiber resource utilization and enable long-distance transmission, while ensuring compatibility with industry-standard equipment.
The OptiX OSN 1800 Series platform provides high-density wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) transmission, supporting up to 16T of capacity, making it ideal for underwater communication and large-scale data transmission. Additionally, Huawei’s eSight Network Management System offers remote management via WEB, SNMP, and CLI, providing efficient network operation and monitoring.
To address the client’s urgent delivery requirements, we worked closely with the procurement team to ensure fast delivery and flexible scheduling. Huawei's solution met both cost control and reliable long-distance communication needs.
2. Cisco Solution
In addition to Huawei’s solution, we also recommended the Cisco NCS 1000 Series solution. The NCS 1000 Series integrates key components such as EDFA, VOA, DWDM Mux Demux, and CFP2 coherent modules, offering efficient fiber resource utilization and robust long-distance transmission capabilities, ensuring network stability and high performance.
The NCS 1000 Series supports a maximum transmission capacity of 1.6T, catering to future scalability. Cisco's advanced remote management technologies, including WEB, SNMP, CLI, and NETCONF/YANG, enable real-time monitoring and management, ensuring efficient network operation.
We also worked closely with the client to adjust delivery dates, ensuring fast delivery to meet their project timelines. Cisco's solution stands out in terms of brand recognition and superior technical support, making it a preferred choice in the high-end market.
Final Decision
After careful evaluation, the client ultimately chose the Cisco NCS 1000 Series solution. While Huawei’s solution offered clear advantages in terms of cost-effectiveness, the client placed greater emphasis on Cisco’s brand reputation and market trust. As a globally recognized leader in networking technology, Cisco's products are widely acknowledged in the industry, and the client felt that Cisco’s solution would provide stronger assurances and technical support. Therefore, we respected the client’s decision and provided them with the most suitable solution.
Results
By integrating the BA+Raman+PA design approach and incorporating Raman amplifiers, the client’s long-distance transmission requirements were met, with signal amplification provided at both ends. This innovation extended transmission distances to an impressive 150 kilometers, far exceeding previous capabilities.
Considering the client’s budget constraints, the solution offered a cost-effective alternative to building relay stations, which would have cost hundreds of thousands of dollars each. Instead, the edge-based amplification solution provided a more affordable way to achieve the necessary transmission distances while adhering to industry standards.
To support the client’s future bandwidth expansion, the solution included an OTN platform capable of meeting immediate Nx100G bandwidth needs while offering a scalable framework for future growth. This not only met the client’s current demands but also positioned them for smooth adaptation to evolving data needs and customer requirements.
