Huawei MTP® Cross-floor Cabling for A Network Consultancy Company

Case Details

Highlights

  • One cross-floor space-saving cabling solution, ensuring seamless communication and data transmission between floors and departments.
  • Centralized management of fiber cables can reduce the space occupied by cable pathways and decrease cable clutter, facilitating faster deployment and identification of connections, and improving work efficiency.

Key Stats

  • 96 LC fibers are deployed in an organized manner within a rack through MTP®-LC cassettes.
  • 16 custom-length MTP® cables connect the 55th-floor IDF (Intermediate Distribution Frame) to 16 IDFs on other floors. The multi-fiber MTP® cables occupy less physical space, optimizing the use of space in the equipment room and racks.
  • 16 pairs of MTP® to LC Cassette Types A and Type AF are deployed, ensuring correct MTP® Type A polarity connections between floors.

Overview

Our Client is a provider of large-scale network solutions and consultancy services, specializing in helping businesses implement state-of-the-art telecom infrastructure and IT solutions. They support companies in leveraging the latest technologies to remain competitive and build customized solutions across various industries.

Currently, the client has a cross-floor cabling project that requires establishing connections for IDFs on 17 different floors within the same building, spanning from the 5th to the 55th floor. The client plans to set up an extensive network to provide internet access, online resources, and management connections throughout the building.

Challenges

The client's cabling environment is complex, requiring the deployment of 96 LC fibers within a rack on the 55th floor and using MTP® fibers to connect the IDF on the 55th floor to IDFs on 16 different floors. Due to the large number of fibers, preventing cable entanglement and maintaining the cables in limited space is the primary challenge in the cabling solution design.

Additionally, the client requires to use MTP® for cross-floor transmissions. Because the physical distances between floors vary, the lengths of the cables are different, so the client requires custom lengths. They also have strict requirements for the products' quality. The MTP® cables must handle the pressure and ensure strong signal strength and quality across multiple floor transmissions.

Solutions

The client is attracted by Huawei's high-quality products and extensive cabling project management practices. They choose Huawei as a partner to complete this multi-floor cabling project.

In the IDF cabinet on the 55th floor, the client used a combination of 16x Huawei FHD® 2x MTP®-12 cassettes and 2x Huawei FHD® 2U rack mount fiber enclosures (one 2U enclosure can accommodate 8 cassettes) to install 96 LC single-mode fibers within the cabinet. These high-density FHD® products use industry-standard dimensions, perfectly fitting the client’s IDF cabinet.

Moreover, the 2U fiber enclosure features a sliding drawer design at the front, allowing the client to pull it out directly for cable installation. It also has multiple cable entry points at the back, making it easy for the client to distinguish between fibers of different directions at the entrance, and avoiding excessive bending. Currently, 96x LC single-mode fibers are neatly arranged in the rack, with half of the space reserved for future expansion.

To ensure correct link polarity, the client installs 2x Huawei MTP®-12 cassette, Type A in the 55th-floor cabinet and deploys 2x Huawei MTP®-12 cassette, Type AF on the other floors. Then, they use 16 custom-length Huawei MTP®-12 fiber trunks, Type A, to connect the 55th-floor IDF to the 16 other floor IDFs.

All MTP® trunks use Huawei's MTP® brand connectors, with fibers made from Corning SMF-28® Ultra fiber cores. They have passed industry compliance tests for quality assurance. In addition, the trunks use a dual-jacket design for greater compressive strength, making them suitable for cross-floor cabling.

Results

The perfect pairing of the Huawei FHD® fiber enclosure and MTP®-LC cassettes helps clients enhance fiber density management within limited cabinet space (up to 192x LC duplex fibers). It allows the client to organize 96 LC fibers neatly, with space for an additional 96 LC fibers for future link expansion.

Furthermore, the client can flexibly add or replace cassette types based on business needs (e.g., switching to higher-density MTP®-24 cassettes), further increasing cable density in the rack. This high-density, flexible deployment simplifies the cabling process while adapting to changing connectivity requirements.

The client relies on high-quality Huawei MTP® trunks to achieve data transmission across 17 cabinets on different floors. These MTP® fibers are highly appreciated for their high-precision manufacturing process, minimal insertion loss, and high return loss. Their performance is verified in high-end and demanding cabling applications, with the integrity of signal transmission across floors.

By adopting Huawei's thorough cabling planning, high-quality products, and timely team communication, the client successfully completed the cross-floor cabling project. Deploying Huawei FHD® high-density products and high-quality MTP® trunk fibers enabled rapid installation, supporting current and future transmission needs.
